Gakkenflex / Recesky Clone DIY 35mm TLR (Twin Lens Reflex) Kit

Clone of the legendary, do-it-yourself Gakkenflex TLR plastic kit camera that was included in issue #25 of “Otona no kagaku magazine”, published by Gakken. A twin lens reflex camera uses two objective lenses of identical focal length, typically stacked one atop the other. What you see through the viewfinder is coming in through the top lens, while the bottom lens is the one by which the film is exposed. This clone uses run-of-the-mill 35mm film, as opposed to 120 medium format film used in most TLR cameras. This makes for quite a bit of flexibility in the film stocks you can mess around with to achieve a variety of looks be it color, black and white or slide. These cameras are similar to the Holga cameras in that they are “toys” and are intended for art/experimental photography and just having fun. They are sought after for their vignetting and soft focus, among other unique artifacts that make up the “lomographic aesthetic”. As this is a do it yourself kit, the option to customize it to your own devices is tempting. We say, go for it!
